Stagecraft presents a staged reading of a new play...

RECEPTION by Christopher Bonewitz

At a wedding upstate, Mark — despite the best efforts of his best friend, Avery, who thinks he should get over himself and make some intimate mistakes — despairs of being with Jessica without becoming something he’s not. Meanwhile, Avery’s wife, Monica, despairs of ever finding a way to get her husband to stand up to their nine-year-old daughter. How alike must two personalities be for love to blossom between them? Can spouses find a way out of long-rutted arguments, or is marriage just a Sisyphean hell in which escape is as impossible as progress? Four friends try to determine where they’ve gone wrong in time to get back on the dance floor for Mr. Brightside.

The Dangers of Smoking Marijuana

Friday, April 19 at 8pm

The PIT, NYC

On any given day at the Gowanus Learning Society, anyone is welcome to give a lecture on the topic of their choosing. But this is not any day. This is a bad day for our speaker. A day where, despite his best efforts, he can’t help but get a few things off his chest.

Loosely based on “The Dangers of Tobacco” by Anton Chekhov, this one act takes the old premise down the long (and very winding) road of life, love, art, and all the trivial stops in between.
